| Mid-States Electric- Our History | |

All three owners were employed by Chase Electric at the time the owner retired and closed business January of 1991. Al Chase sold the business to Brian, Jim, and Justin and the name of the business was changed to Mid States Electric. Mid States Electric began business April 1991 and kept many of the same clients that Chase Electric had. The business was located in South Sioux City, Nebraska with our office and shop at one location. The first several years of business was primarily in the meat packing industry in Iowa and Nebraska. As time went on relationships developed with several general contractors and other food processing plants. Most of the work was in the meat packing industry, material handling, and ammonia refrigerated cold storage plants. |

We completed a large hamburger addition and also a hides plant upgrade in 1993 in Texas. Our company has always covered all of the central corridor of the United States since it’s beginning.
In 1996 we were the sole contractor for a large ammonia quick chill cooler in an Iowa pork plant. This included substantial modifications to the facility to make room for this cooler and keep the plant operational during this construction. Our equipment and materials were too much for the single building. In 1999 Mid States Electric acquired another property in South Sioux City. This included an existing concrete structure for welding and material storage and a new 60 X 100 Steel Building was built for more equipment and tool storage.
2002 marked the year Mid States Electric began working in the Ethanol Industry. Two projects were completed simultaneously in South Dakota and Missouri. One was a new 100 million gal/yr facility wired entirely by Mid States.
In 2003 Mid States became a member of ABC of Iowa. This has been a great asset to our company. We started our in-house Apprenticeship Training Program with ABC. This is a Department of Labor approved program and qualifies graduates to take their State of Iowa Journeyman Test. In addition to the electrical training, ABC provides us training for our Gas and Oil Operator Qualification testing.
2004 was the year of our first biodiesel job. It was a new 50 million gal/yr facility and Mid States Electric was the sole electrical contractor.
The first Wind Energy project for Mid States was in 2006. There were 36 wind generators in central Nebraska that we completed work on.
2007 is the year that Mid States did its first project for the Army Corps of Engineers at a power generation dam. We installed a control system for a new water chiller system.
In 2008 we received a contract to install temperature compensated radar level sensors on 48 large crude oil storage vessels in Oklahoma. This is when we completed the registration process with www.isnetworld.com and complete operator qualification training for our employees to work in these facilities.
We continued to outgrow our location in South Sioux City, Nebraska. In February of 2009 we moved across the river to our new location in Iowa. This is a 24,000 sq ft building with 5 acres of land. This has ample room for our panel building shop, Greenlee tool repair shop, parts and equipment storage, and all of our office personnel.
As we look to the future, we see many opportunities for our experienced and trained staff of professionals. As one can see, we have a diverse background of experience with one thing in common. All of our experience is industrial electrical installations. This is our background and it is what we take pride in. | |
